Thutmose II however was a sickly man. Queen Hatshepsut was Egypts fifth pharaoh of the eighteenth dynasty who took the throne in 1478 BC and ruled until 1458 BC when she died at the age of 51. Egypt faced a problem though. Hatshepsut means Foremost of Noble Women.

During this time Hatshepsut had begun to take an active role in running the country. When Thutmose II inherited the throne Hatshepsut became his consort. She married her half-brother Thutmose II and assumed the role of principal wife and queen.

What is the relationship between Queen Hatshepsut and her lover the engineer Senenmut. Hatshepsut was now queen of Egypt. He ruled for only a few years before he died.

Hatshepsut did not banish Thutmose III who technically served as her co-ruler but she clearly overshadowed him. Designed by Senenmut Hatshepsuts steward and architect this mortuary temple closely resembles the classical Greek architecture of 1000 years later.
